The Houston twelve

City consulate pages, like Consulate Info's Corpus Christi page, answer one question: whose offices are in this city? Our records hold no mission in Corpus Christi at all, so the form moves to the Texas city the records do cover. Houston ties Los Angeles and Chicago at 12 recorded missions, the most under any single US city spelling.

What the table cannot hide

Seven of the twelve records publish no jurisdiction at all, and only five publish a phone number. That is not a Houston problem; it is the shape of consular data everywhere in our 1,457 records, where just 56 percent carry a phone. The two posts that do publish full multi-state jurisdictions, Egypt and Indonesia, each name seven or more states from Houston, which is why a Houston office can be the right office for someone in Colorado or Florida. Germany and the Philippines both publish the same five-state block: Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The spelling quirk at the top of the chart

Houston's tie is real but fragile. Washington appears in our records under two spellings, Washington DC (10 missions) and Washington, D.C. (9), which merge to 19, and New York splits the same way (New York City 8, New York 8, merging to 16). City counts from directory data are only as clean as the spellings underneath them; we print the recorded spellings rather than silently merging them, and the merged figures here so the tie is not oversold.

Finding your office

If your home country is one of the twelve, the Houston post is a candidate, not a certainty: jurisdiction decides, not distance. Check the office type before you travel with our Honorary or Real? checker, because an honorary post in Houston cannot do everything a consulate general there can.
